How Do I Set Stop-Loss and Take-Profit Orders in MatchTrader?

A Stop-Loss (SL) closes your trade automatically at a set loss level. A Take-Profit (TP) closes it automatically at a set profit level. On FundYourFX accounts, setting a Stop-Loss is not optional.

Important: the mandatory stop-loss rule

A Stop-Loss is mandatory on every trade. You must place it within 3 minutes of opening the position. You are allowed 2 misses (soft breaches). A third miss terminates the account, so make placing your SL part of your routine on every trade.

There is no minimum distance requirement. Your Stop-Loss can sit at any valid price level.

Setting SL and TP when you open a trade

  1. 1Open the Order panel on the right side of the platform.
  2. 2Select your instrument and order type (Market or Limit).
  3. 3Enter your lot size (volume).
  4. 4Enter your Stop-Loss as a price level or a pip distance in the SL field.
  5. 5Enter your Take-Profit level in the TP field (recommended, but optional).
  6. 6Click Buy or Sell. Your SL and TP are attached automatically to the position.

Editing SL and TP on an open trade

  1. 1Go to the Positions tab at the bottom of the screen.
  2. 2Find the trade you want to change.
  3. 3Click the edit (pencil) icon, or double-click the trade row.
  4. 4Update the Stop Loss and/or Take Profit fields with your new levels.
  5. 5Click Modify to save.

A note on pending orders

If you use a pending order (Limit or Stop), remember that the position becomes active only when the order triggers. Make sure your Stop-Loss is in place once the trade opens so you stay inside the 3-minute rule.
